Oscars Best Dressed 2011

Our 10 Favorite Gowns of the Night
Let's get right to it, gals! Want to see our picks for the 10 best dressed women at the 2011 Oscars?

0228mila-kunis-oscars-2011-elie-saab_fa.jpg
Mila Kunis went for envelope-pushing yet elegant in this lingerie-inspired lavender gown by Elie Saab haute couture. Hot body alert!
0228jennifer-hudson-oscars-2011-versace_fa2.jpg
She called her Versace dress "tangerine orange" (a major color trend right now!) before the show, but we call Jennifer Hudson's frock smoking hot. Even chicer? She's got purple heels on under that train!

0228gwyneth-paltrow-calvin-klein-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
There's a reason she's Gwyneth Paltrow, gals: The Oscar winner knows how to look like a true star on the red carpet, and this metallic Calvin Klein Collection gown really let her true beauty shine through. Louis Vuitton jewels add just enough glam factor.

0228hilary-swank-versace-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
In more amazing metallics news, Hilary Swank stunned us in a glittering strapless gown by Gucci with a feathered train. Her sculptural hairdo was the perfect way to flaunt those fabulous shoulders.

0228cate-blanchett-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
Can you say flawless? Cate Blanchett always pulls out the big guns for the Oscars, but her structured lilac Givenchy haute couture gown was exceptionally beautiful. Her simple, sleek 'do is the perfect complement.

0228reese-witherspoon-armani-prive-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
Reese Witherspoon is all-American red carpet royalty in this Armani Prive gown--it shows off her silhouette perfectly, and the vintage Barbie ponytail is tres chic!

0228hailee-steinfeld-marchesa-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
She's only 14, but Hailee Steinfeld has been knocking our socks off on the red carpet. For the biggest red carpet of the year, she went sweet, demure, and age-appropriate in a tulle Marchesa dress. The length is absolutely darling!
0228natalie-portman-rodarte-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
Good friends Kate and Laura Mulleavy--otherwise known as Rodarte--whipped up this custom drapey off-the-shoulder maternity dress for Natalie Portman, and she's positively radiant. The rich plum hue and coordinating accessories get an A+.

0228halle-berry-marchesa-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
Stunning actress + fantasy gown = red carpet perfection. Halle Berry knows how to bring it, which is exactly what she did in this frothy strapless Marchesa number.

0228anne-hathaway-valentino-oscars-2011_fa.jpg
What better way to make an entrance in a Valentino dress than with the designer himself on your arm? Anne Hathaway's strapless scarlet gown was the first of many wardrobe changes...check back on STF tomorrow for a full recap of the rest!

Spring Trends 2011

Trend #1: Back to the colorful 60's:
Get inspired by the playful glamour of the Sixites. The look with its babydolls is very chic but sexy at the same time. Short jackets and fine trousers create elegance, tunics and mini-skirts revive a maiden charme. The silhouette is lineal and short, the cloth is monochrome and close-fitting. Accessories have to be combined carefully à la Mad Men-icon Joan Holloway - a small bag and sunglasses are perfect.

Trend #2: Modern Safari
Tackle the urban jungle in this season's luxe safari look.
In terms of styling, it's all about the right attitude this spring. You only need a few articles of clothing, which remind you of functional clothing and safari-fashion. Tight or loose-fit trousers, solid or sheer fabric... gather what you like. Smart and elegant or debonair, it's your decision. Details like many, many trouser pockets and epaulets stand for its smart look, lace and silk create a feminine contrast. Your outfit can be rounded off with appropriate accessories like aviator glasses and bootees. Have a good trip!

Some outfit ideas:

Trend #3: City nomads - Romantic & cool hippie looks
The globetrotter-trend stays, but this season there are some new influences like the country-style and folklore. You remember Greenwich Village in the 70's combined with rural romance and hippie-glamour.

Be inspired by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller - and India 'cause this is the country of casual silhouettes, dramatically wavy cloth and drapery. It's the symbol of patterns, ornaments and accessories. In addition, smooth leather and buckskin, brazen and cupreous jewelry, big rings and flowing scarfs. The result: a cool, romantic look with a touch of rock'n'roll.

Up our street

#What could be more straightforward as inspiration than ordinary people just looking incredibly fabulous? We took a look at some not-so-obvious (but great) street fashion blogs.

Look at me

Russian fashion used to have a slightly bad reputation, but judging by the street looks from places such as Moscow and Sevastopol, the style mavens of Russia are killing it with their fabulous outfits.

Japanese streets

Tokyo is sort of the home of crazy street fashion – who can forget Fruits magazine, for example? For some serious fashion inspiration, take a look at this street style blog showing just how creative people are with their clothes. For sheer audacity and verve, this is inspirational as much for its attitude as its style.

Style sightings

Want to see how people wear capes on the streets of Milan, London or Paris? Style sightings gives each post a theme, from “Heritage” to “The unisex clutch”, an approach which works particularly well when everyone on this blog looks so incredibly good.

Street peeper

For a bird’s eye view on fashion, look no further than this fashion-heavy blog. It covers the whole world, from Stockholm to Jakarta. Photographer Phil Oh often shoots fashion insiders, which gives this blog a slightly more luxurious slant, but the exuberance and joy of dressing up is equally present in the ordinary people captured.

Wear about

Mumbai-based Manou mixes the highs and lows of Indian street life in this original and fascinating street fashion blog. With India being a strong inspiration in fashion this season, why not go to the original for cues on how to update its traditional garb. Natalie Portman wears H&M dress!!

Pregnant Natalie Portman stepped out to the "Vanity Fair Campaign Hollywood 2011's Richard Mille Toasts Fox Searchlight Films" fete in Hollywood on Thursday night in a $49.95 H&M dress, Racked reports.

The frock is part of the brand's "Conscious Collections," "an ongoing range of women's, men's, and kid's wear constructed of greener and eco-friendlier materials including organic cotton, organic linen, recycled polyester, and Tencel, a renewable material that's produced with minimal environmental impact" that will hit shelves April 14.

Portman's red carpet moment marks another win for the fast fashion purveyor -- just several weeks ago, First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on "The Today Show" in a $34.95 H&M dress. (via Huffington Post).

Take a look and tell us what you think. I adore it & I gotta get it. ♥

#4 Cartoon Cutie - The Quirky look

via Hennes/Mauritz
So, this is my last post concerning the quirky style. How did my "QUIRKY ME" posts grab you??

Lara Stone for Vogue China

PHOTOS DE MODE inspired me today with these colourful shots in the desert. LARA STONE, a Dutch model, got photographed by INEZ VAN LAMSWEERDE and Vinoodh Matadin for VOGUE CHINA March 2011. But this wasn't her first Vogue campaign. She also worked for the French an the Japanese Vogue and VOGUE PARIS named her as one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. So, this is her latest shot. Styled by NICOLETTA SANTORO, Lara dons some of the most beautiful dresses of the season from the likes of LANVIN, TOM FORD and EMILIO PUCCI in Wild Flower. (Pictures via)

How do you like the design?

February 9, 2011

Are you an animal lover?

Actually, animal designs printed on dresses are a little outdated since the models of Miu Miu wore them on catwalk last summer season.  Too dumpy and too obvious were all replications since then.

Now, Opening Ceremony teamed up with Deyrolle, a Parisian store which exhibits mounted animals. But what has our New Yorker fav to do with dead wildcats or birds? To me, their collaboration is a successful extension of Opening Ceremony's collection.

At first sight, I thought that working with a taxidermist is pretty macabre. But I have to admit that the collection turned out to be a real eyecatcher. Not least because it has nothing to do with dead animals. There are just simple dresses with animal prints.

PS: On openingceremony.com you can find a short "making of".

So, what do you think about these animalistic looks?
